Night of the Lights at Würzburg's Kiliansdom

When the night falls over Würzburg on Saturday, November 14, 2026, the Kiliansdom will open its doors for a special ecumenical evening prayer. The Night of the Lights combines meditative songs from Taizé, biblical texts, prayers, and moments of silence into a serene event experience in the heart of the city.

Taizé Songs and Candlelight

The focus is on the atmospheric, recurring songs from Taizé. Their simple melodies create space for singing along, listening, and pausing. Together with the warm glow of many lights, a concentrated yet open event atmosphere arises in the historic church space.

An Evening for Calmness and Community

The Night of the Lights is aimed at people seeking a spiritual break and wishing to experience the evening in a communal atmosphere. Biblical impulses, prayers, and times of silence provide a clear, meditative framework for the event. The event attracts both regular attendees of ecumenical prayers and curious guests.

Würzburg as an Impressive Setting

The Würzburg Kiliansdom gives the evening a special effect. The sacred ambiance, the acoustics of the church space, and the deliberately decelerated event planning create a contrast to the everyday life of the city center. Comfortable clothing is recommended for the event experience; blankets and prayer stools may be brought along.

Organizer and Cooperation

The Night of the Lights is organized by the Evangelical Youth in the Würzburg Deanery in cooperation with the Evangelical Student Community, the Catholic University Community, and other church partners in the Mainfranken region. The joint organization underscores the ecumenical character of the evening.

Conclusion

The Night of the Lights invites you to a quiet, musical, and communal evening in the Kiliansdom. Those wishing to experience Taizé songs, candlelight, and spiritual impulses in an impressive atmosphere will find a special date in the Würzburg event calendar.
