Events and Program 2025 at the Mainfrankensäle

The annual program of the Mainfrankensäle combines established formats with new accents. Cultural events such as concerts, cabaret, comedy, theater, and dance evenings alternate with congresses, conferences, trade fairs, or festive occasions. The outlook for 2025 particularly highlights the tension between regional roots and supra-regional appeal: A fixed point is the grand session "Fastnacht in Franken," which will be broadcast live on BR television on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Since 1988, this show has taken place in the Mainfrankensäle and is part of the venue's DNA – featuring the well-known mix of dance, music, and witty speeches. Those who wish to attend should note that ticket distribution is traditionally very sought after and is organized by the Fastnacht-Verband Franken in cooperation with BR. In addition to this TV highlight, the calendar of the Mainfrankensäle features numerous other events that reflect the venue's spectrum: readings and small art evenings benefit from the variable seating and clear sightlines in the hall, while concerts and cabaret utilize the stage with approximately 115 m² and the permanently installed media and lighting technology. For conferences and congresses, powerful projectors and screens (including one with a stage width of 12 m) as well as fiber-optic connections are used, allowing for hybrid or streamed formats. The exact dates, start times, and ticketing options can be found on the event overview of the Mainfrankensäle; there, the organizers specify whether tickets are sold online or through regional advance sales outlets. Short-term program changes – such as moving an open-air serenade indoors in case of uncertain weather – are also communicated through official channels. Therefore, it is worthwhile for culture-interested guests to regularly check the schedule, especially regarding supra-regional tours or thematic focuses. Tip for planners: Those who want to combine corporate formats with content sessions and evening programs can elegantly link day and evening events at the venue – the room structure of the Mainfrankensäle is specifically designed for this.

Those traveling environmentally friendly by train can also reach the venue comfortably: The Veitshöchheim train station is about 600 meters away, while Würzburg's main train station is approximately 8 kilometers away. This connects good regional access with fast supra-regional connections. A special feature is the location directly by the river: The boat landing is right outside the door, allowing excursion boats – depending on the schedule and season – to travel to Würzburg and back in about 45 minutes each way. This option offers a picturesque arrival or departure along the Main, which is especially popular during summer events. There, short-term changes – such as start times or hall openings – are communicated, as well as additional information regarding entry, cloakroom, or any special regulations from the organizers. For TV-related events like "Fastnacht in Franken," it is also worthwhile to check the announcements from BR, which consolidate dates and broadcast times, including repeats. Those who wish to remain flexible can check for "today" inquiries to see if independent formats are taking place in the smaller or medium hall, in the conference rooms, or in the foyer – ranging from regional small art evenings to readings and exhibitions. For families or groups, the combination of an event and a walk along the Main is attractive: The riverside promenade is right in front of the venue, Würzburg can be quickly reached by boat or train, and the Hofgarten of Veitshöchheim with the palace and Rococo park is ideal for a visit before or after the event. Those planning to hold a conference or workshop "today" benefit from the short-notice requestable room structure – small meetings can be organized for about eight people; the conference rooms are available, which can be configured flexibly in terms of technology and space. For cultural formats, doors typically open before the start of the performance; exact times are communicated by the respective organizer. The two-story foyer, with a total of around 700 m², serves as a communicative center: visitors meet here for check-in, exhibitions are held here, and buffets or coffee stations are set up here. Floor coverings, acoustic elements, and furnishings are designed for event operations; the powerful ventilation system ensures a pleasant climate. Thanks to fiber-optic connections, streaming and hybrid formats are possible. Accessibility is firmly established: A passenger elevator provides access to the hall and other levels; hearing loops and a guiding system for the visually impaired assist people with disabilities. For organizers, the short distances within the venue, the catering entrance, and good service access are relevant – enabling quick transformations between plenary sessions, breakouts, and evening programs. Historically, the building was extensively renovated and expanded from 2012 to 2014; after a two-year closure, the conference and event center reopened in January 2015, modernized. Since then, both regional culture and supra-regional congresses have been among the venue's regular formats.

Food & Drink: Restaurant Situation and Catering

The Mainfrankensäle have a gastronomy area in the building, which has been operated under various names for many years. After reopening in 2015, the restaurant started under the name "Kaskade," and in 2023, the brand "Büttnerstuben" took over. According to local reports, the operation of the Büttnerstuben has been suspended since May 2025; the municipality has indicated that various usage models are currently being examined. For guests, this means that catering for events is secured – it is currently provided by external catering partners and, for smaller formats, additionally through a trial counter sale by the venue. What is offered in individual cases is decided by the organizers in coordination with the venue; corresponding information can be found on the detail pages of the respective events. For banquets and gala evenings in the Great Hall, suitable seating arrangements are available (e.g., up to 480 seats at round tables), and thanks to the direct access to the kitchen, service routes can be kept short and efficient. On the terrace and in the foyer, coffee breaks, standing receptions, and exhibition stands are common; the infrastructure is designed for buffet setups, power connections, and visitor guidance. Those wishing to learn about regional gastronomy in advance will find a wide selection in Veitshöchheim and Würzburg; the connection to the Mainfranken region also facilitates the integration of local wines and specialties into event concepts. For organizers, it is advisable to define catering needs early – from finger food for networking to multi-course evening meals. This exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the tourist information; during events in the venue, it is temporarily dismantled – so it is worthwhile to clarify availability in advance. For planners, the photo galleries are also useful because they show the spatial effect in daylight and darkness: The south-facing windows bring daylight inside; for shows, the hall can be completely darkened. The foyer demonstrates its spaciousness over two levels in pictures – reception counters, sponsor walls, or art installations are often placed here. From the outside, a spacious facility, but unfortunately we had no luck getting into the foyer again today. The tourist info was closed, on a Sunday when other visitors wanted to see the displays inside. But maybe more visitors will come on Mondays.

For several years now, we have been planning our large events, starting from 250 participants, at the Mainfrankensäle. We and all our external service providers needed for the events are very satisfied with the collaboration. The event team works professionally, thinks of everything, and provides support. So far, there has been nothing they couldn't accommodate. They also showed flexibility with last-minute requests. The Mainfrankensäle have everything you need for a large event. The excellent parking options are also worth mentioning.

Dance Night. Very good event!!! The breaks were a bit long. Staff and entry were well organized. The food and drink counters were a bit slow. The queue could have been significantly shortened with 2 counters... but all in all, a lovely evening.

You can't describe it, you have to experience it. I've been there twice and each time I'm thrilled, the organization is top-notch, nice people, helpful, parking on-site, restaurants and beer garden not far away.

The dress rehearsal for Fastnacht in Franken is also worth seeing. Price-performance ratio is okay. Would love to come again.
