RW21 City Library | Opening Hours & Directions

The RW21 in Bayreuth is much more than a traditional library: under one roof, the city library, adult education center, and Lesecafé21 combine to create an open place for education, learning, and encounters in the heart of the city. Since its opening in 2011, the building has established itself as a municipal center that brings together an astonishingly wide range of offerings across 5,000 square meters and five floors. Those looking for RW21 Bayreuth, Richard-Wagner-Straße 21, Lesecafé21, opening hours, directions, or parking will find a place where media, courses, advice, exhibitions, and breaks naturally belong together. The RW21 caters equally to children, teenagers, adults, and seniors, connecting culture, information, and practicality in a way that is unique in Bayreuth. The official self-presentation emphasizes the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, the diverse media offerings, the focus on all age groups, free Wi-Fi, and Lesecafé21 as a special meeting point. This mix shapes the first impression and explains why the building is perceived not just as a library but as a vibrant part of the city. Opening Hours, Contact, and Returns at RW21

Those planning to visit RW21 should first know the opening hours: the city library is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM; it is closed on Mondays. For many visitors, the return via the machines in the foyer, which can be used daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM, is particularly convenient. This allows for a very flexible integration of the library visit into the daily routine, even if one cannot come during regular service hours. The official website also points out that the rooms of the adult education center can be accessed outside the opening hours of the city library via the entrance on Werner-Siemens-Straße. This functional division into different areas does not lose its common identity as RW21. This structure is particularly helpful for people specifically looking for RW21 opening hours or a quick contact option, as it significantly simplifies orientation within the building. RW21 thus combines service and accessibility: short distances, clear times, and a division that allows for different uses to occur simultaneously. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/kontakt/oeffnungszeiten-kontakt-feedback/))

For regular visits, the time model is also pleasantly manageable, as the library, Lesecafé21, and many offerings operate in a common rhythm. Those who want to pick up, return, or browse media do not have to search long for special regulations. The phone numbers and contact details are clearly displayed, and the city library refers to advice, feedback, and newsletters as additional information channels. This is particularly advantageous for families, students, or working individuals, as a quick stop at the library can be combined with errands, classes, courses, or a café visit. The opening hours are deliberately designed for regular visits, while the return machines cover significantly longer time windows. This combination of a manageable structure and additional flexibility contributes to the RW21 functioning so well in everyday life. For SEO search queries like RW21 opening hours, RW21 contact, or return city library Bayreuth, the building is therefore not only findable but also very concretely usable. Directions, Parking, and Accessibility

The location of RW21 is central and well-connected. The building can be reached by bus via several stops: Oberfrankenhalle, Wahnfried, and Sternplatz are served by various lines, including 304, 316, 326, 302, 307, and 314; in the evenings and on Sundays, line 223 complements the service. For visitors with bicycles, there are parking spaces directly in front of the entrance, making the short walk into the building uncomplicated. The central location in the city center at Richard-Wagner-Straße 21 also facilitates combining it with other errands in Bayreuth. Those specifically searching for directions to RW21 or public transport in Bayreuth will find a well-documented and practical accessibility. This is particularly relevant for participants in adult education courses, library users, and guests of the café who are planning a spontaneous visit. The official site for the location also refers to the integration into the transport network and nearby stops, ensuring that even people without a car can arrive reliably. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/kontakt/lage-anfahrt/))

RW21 is also reasonably accessible by car, as the official directions page lists several parking options in the immediate vicinity: the Sternplatz underground garage (P8), the Badstraße (P7) and Oberfrankenhalle (P1) parking garages, the Stadthalle parking lot (P6), as well as free short-term parking in Dilchertstraße. Additionally, there are clear indications of accessibility within the building itself: escalators and an elevator provide easy access between floors, there is an accessible toilet on the top floor, and there are accessible parking spaces and short-term parking available in front of the building. This is extremely important for a building with many different uses, as it must accommodate not only media but also courses, events, and advice. Free Wi-Fi throughout the building, seating areas on the floors, and reading devices or loanable reading aids further enhance this barrier-free impression. Those searching for parking RW21, accessibility RW21, or location RW21 will find a very practical, publicly documented solution here. Lesecafé21, Rooftop Terrace, and Enjoyment

Lesecafé21 is one of the reasons why RW21 is so much more than just a lending facility. It is officially described as a modern café that connects the reading and media worlds of the city library with the learning worlds of the adult education center. On the 2nd floor, course participants, library guests, and people simply looking for a relaxed break come together. The offerings range from coffee specialties to cakes and pastries, as well as light meals, soups, and bagels. Additionally, drinks are offered that are regionally and seasonally inspired. The atmosphere is deliberately designed for lingering, and this is exactly what makes Lesecafé21 a place where a short break can quickly turn into a longer stay. The official presentation also emphasizes that learning, reading, and enjoying do not exclude each other but rather reinforce one another. For those searching for Lesecafé21 Bayreuth or RW21 Café, this is a strong signal, as it describes not an anonymous gastro space but a real meeting point. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/angebote/lesecafe-21/?utm_source=openai))

Particularly attention-grabbing is the rooftop terrace, which was reopened on August 26, 2025, after renovation work. RW21 describes it as one of the most beautiful rooftop terraces in Bayreuth, and Lesecafé21 uses it as an extension of the outdoor seating area. For guests, this means a mix of city views, tranquility, and café atmosphere, which is particularly appealing on sunny days. Moreover, the café is interesting not only for its food and drinks but also for its program: exhibitions, literature cafés, language cafés, and meetings of the chess club are integral parts of the concept. This creates a place where one can unexpectedly encounter a reading, a musical moment, or a lively language situation over coffee. This openness makes Lesecafé21 a true social spot within RW21 and is a clear SEO advantage for search terms like photos RW21, reviews RW21, or Lesecafé21 Bayreuth. The user experience is shaped not only by culinary aspects but also by the atmosphere. City Library, Children's Library, and Digital Offers

The city library in RW21 sees itself as a modern media location with a wide spectrum. Books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and games are available for borrowing; in addition, there are e-media through the Franken-Onleihe and tablets for loan. The offerings are complemented by internet and PC workstations with printing and copying options, free Wi-Fi throughout the building, and the Regiothek with interesting information about life in and around Bayreuth. The official description also mentions guides on fitness, law, psychology, the internet, and lifestyle, audiobooks and music CDs, a media table for the older generation, as well as special collections on elderly care and dementia. It quickly becomes clear that RW21 is not only intended for leisure reading but also for research, further education, and practical everyday questions. For people searching for RW21 city library or digital offers, the building is particularly attractive because it brings together classic and digital media in one place. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/ausleihe/faq/))

Especially the children's and youth area makes RW21 very family-friendly. In the Kibi, the children's library with a circus tent, there are current media such as books, CDs, console games, games, magazines, films, Kamishibai, Tonies, LÜK learning games, mini-robots, TipToi, and BOOKii. The reading island serves as a retreat for young people aged 12 and older and offers a selection of fantasy and romance stories, manga, magazines, and foreign-language media. Additionally, there are regular story hours with craft and painting activities. The library also refers to reader backpacks with thematically bundled media that children aged six and older can borrow. This variety shows why RW21 is so popular among families, school classes, and young readers. Those searching for children's library RW21, books for children Bayreuth, or play and learn will find an offering that connects analog and digital exploration very well. The presentation is deliberately friendly, accessible, and practical. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/231124_rw21_handbuch_v02.pdf))

Adult Education Center, Seminar Rooms, and Learning Advice

The adult education center is a central component of RW21. In the building at Richard-Wagner-Straße 21, course advice, learning advice, and a diverse educational offering can be found, ranging from lectures to weekend seminars to study trips and day trips. The city of Bayreuth describes RW21 as a common roof for the city library and adult education center, under which an open citizen center has emerged. The spatial structure of the adult education center is also noteworthy. According to the official description, it is located on the top floor, so at the very top of the building. There is an office for personal information and advice as well as several seminar rooms. In the area of event rentals, health, event, and IT rooms, a cooking studio, and additional seminar rooms are also mentioned. This variety is practical because it makes different learning and event formats possible under one roof. Those interested in a seminar, lecture, or workshop will find at RW21 not only an administrative location but a functionally equipped educational environment. This aligns with the fundamental idea of the building as an open center for information and development. For the search intentions behind adult education center RW21 and seminar rooms Bayreuth, this is crucial: the building is not merely an administrative office but a place with concrete, versatile learning spaces. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/ausleihe/vermietung/))

Exhibitions, Event Rooms, and Special Atmosphere

RW21 is also a place for events, exhibitions, and encounters. The gallery on the 1st floor is explicitly described as a venue for exhibitions and has 26 running meters of gallery rails as well as space for exhibits and openings of 50 to 100 square meters. In the basement, there is the Black Box, a room with 140 square meters, a maximum of 80 chairs, no daylight situation, and technical equipment for lectures, readings, or picture book cinema. The creative workshop on the ground floor is intended for workshops and smaller formats, and the group forum serves as a place for story hours. This variety makes RW21 equally attractive for culture, education, and community formats. Those searching for event rooms RW21 or exhibitions Bayreuth will find a well-documented structure with clearly named rooms and very different usage possibilities. The official rental page also emphasizes that the building is modernly equipped and that rooms are rented out unless they are occupied by the own program. ([stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de](https://stadtbibliothek.bayreuth.de/ausleihe/vermietung/))

The special atmosphere of RW21 is not only supported by the architecture but also by the people and the mix of offerings. The city library describes the building as open, friendly, and characterized by a relaxed, cheerful mood; the free Wi-Fi, friendly colors, the variety of media, and Lesecafé21 also contribute to this. Existing reviews repeatedly praise this atmosphere, as well as the large and well-equipped library, the good coffee, and the pleasant environment. We stumbled upon this nice coffee shop while we were looking for some children's books. It seems this is somehow a meeting place for mothers with young kids. The pastries, coffee, and tea were delicious, and the service is great. We'll try to come by every time we visit Bayreuth.

An ideal library with strange working hours! Like an orchard where you don't have time to pick fruit. The library is big and well-equipped, but because of its short working hours, it is not that beneficial.

I liked the decor and the books (especially those in the art section). Unfortunately, I couldn't stay longer because I went in while I was working (field service 😅) and had to get back to work.
