Felix-Fechenbach-Haus | Events & Rooms

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus at Gutenbergstraße 11 is the community center of Grombühl and at the same time a versatile event venue in the city of Würzburg. The address combines culture, neighborhood, social services, and various event formats under one roof. Those looking for an event space in Würzburg will find here not an anonymous large arena, but a well-accessible place with a strong connection to the neighborhood and a flexible room structure. Conferences, banquets, small concerts, film screenings, accompanying exhibitions, club parties, and receptions are among the designated usage options.

The house is located in the Würzburg district of Grombühl and is particularly easy to reach by tram, as the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus stop is right outside the door. For those arriving by car, 20 underground parking spaces are mentioned. Accessibility is also indicated in the municipal information. The rooms range from variously sized halls to gallery areas and can be used individually depending on the event. A published fixed total capacity is not specified; thus, the possible occupancy depends on the chosen room, seating arrangement, event format, and respective safety regulations.

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus gains its special character from the connection of history and present. The building stands on a previously industrially used area, was developed as a community center, and still reminds of its past today. At the same time, it is a lively meeting point for initiatives, clubs, families, cultural workers, and people from the neighborhood. Thus, the location is suitable for both organized events and encounters that arise from the everyday life of the neighborhood.

Felix-Fechenbach-Haus Events and Program in Grombühl

The event profile of the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is diverse and clearly shaped by the character of a community center. The municipal cultural space exchange lists conferences and meetings, banquets, small concerts, film screenings, accompanying exhibitions, club parties, and receptions as possible uses. This allows the location to be used for both factually oriented formats and cultural and social occasions. What is crucial is less a permanently fixed stage program than the ability of the house to spatially accommodate different groups and event ideas.

A recurring cultural highlight is the Würzburg Jazz Festival. According to available information, the festival traditionally takes place on the last weekend of October at the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus. The event makes visible the role the house can take on in the cultural calendar of the city: It is not only a meeting point for local activities but also an established venue for a multi-day music format. For jazz fans, the visit is thus associated with the special atmosphere of a community center where the audience, musicians, and the neighborhood come together directly.

In addition, municipal and community events take place in the house. Examples include a lost property auction and the annual general meeting of the volunteer fire department of Würzburg. The non-alcoholic neighborhood festival in Grombühl has also been held in and around the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus. At this festival, family-friendly offerings, games and action booths, face painting, craft activities, music, choir performances, sports demonstrations, and a stage program were the focus. Such formats show that the house is not exclusively intended for closed societies or specialized events but also serves as an open meeting point for the neighborhood.

Those looking for the current Felix-Fechenbach-Haus program should note that dates can be published depending on the organizer, club, or municipal institution. A uniform, permanently complete event calendar is not apparent from the available location information. Therefore, it is advisable to check the details of the respective organizer or the current information from the city of Würzburg before visiting. For organizers, the house offers the opportunity to implement their own dates in an urban and socially anchored environment.

Rooms, Equipment, and Floor Plan in the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus has several differently sized rooms that can be used for various types of events. The municipal overview lists Hall 1/2 with a total of 340 square meters, Hall 1 with 207 square meters, and Hall 2 with 133 square meters. The room offering is supplemented by Gallery 1 with 135 square meters and Gallery 2 with 67 square meters. This division allows for the selection of event spaces depending on size, process, and desired room effect. A binding total number of seats or standing places is not published. Therefore, the specific capacity for each date should be inquired individually.

For planning a floor plan, the event format is particularly decisive. A row seating for a presentation requires a different room layout than a banquet with tables, a reception with standing tables, or a concert with an open area in front of a stage. The municipal information mentions various tables and chairs as available equipment. Additionally, a projector, microphones, a sound system, a lectern, pinboards, and flipcharts are available. An adjustable stage complements the technical and organizational basic equipment.

This makes the house suitable for events where presentation, moderation, and encounters are to be combined. In a conference, the projector can be used for presentations, while flipcharts and pinboards support group work or workshop phases. For a reception or a club event, tables, chairs, and serving options can be flexibly combined. For small concerts, the stage provides clear spatial orientation, while the existing microphone and sound system supports the basic sound reinforcement.

A fixed publicly accessible seating plan, as in a large theater or arena, is not specified. This is plausible for a multifunctional community center because the rooms are changed depending on the event. For organizers, this means flexibility, but also a higher need for coordination. Therefore, before booking, seating wishes, stage position, technology, entry situation, escape routes, catering, and expected visitor numbers should be discussed. The ultimately permissible occupancy is determined not only by the square meter area but also by setup, safety requirements, and the respective usage concept.

Renting the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus for Conferences, Parties, and Culture

Those wishing to rent the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus can choose from several usage scenarios. The location is suitable for conferences and meetings when a well-accessible environment, presentation technology, and flexible seating arrangements are required. With a projector, microphones, sound system, lectern, pinboards, and flipcharts, a basic setup for presentations and meetings is available. The rooms can also be requested for banquets, receptions, and club parties. In these formats, often not only the pure number of seats is in focus, but also the possibility of connecting meeting areas, stage areas, and catering options.

For smaller cultural events, the house also offers suitable conditions. Small concerts, film screenings, and accompanying exhibitions are among the mentioned uses. The gallery areas can serve as exhibition or reception areas, while the halls are used for the actual program. An adjustable stage creates additional adaptation options. Depending on the concept, the room can thus appear more concert-like, festive, informative, or community-oriented.

Catering is possible through a catering company according to municipal information. Details about food, drinks, service scope, and costs must be clarified with the respective provider or during the inquiry. For a banquet, a reception, or a neighborhood festival, this option can facilitate event planning. At the same time, it should be checked early on which areas are needed for distribution, serving, storage, and dismantling. Especially for combined events with a stage and catering, coordinated room planning is important.

The use of the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is not only aimed at professional organizers. Clubs, initiatives, educational institutions, municipal facilities, and local groups can also benefit from the location and room structure. The character of the house as a non-commercial and intergenerational contact point is expressly described in municipal development documents. This makes the location interesting for projects that have a direct connection to Grombühl or to the Würzburg city life.

Since daily rates and individual conditions are provided upon request, interested parties should formulate their inquiries as concretely as possible. Helpful are details about the event date, expected number of people, desired room, seating, required technology, setup and dismantling times, catering, and questions regarding accessibility. This way, it can be checked whether the desired use is compatible with the spatial and organizational possibilities of the house.

Grombühl, History, and Namesake Felix Fechenbach

The name of the house recalls Felix Fechenbach, a political poet and journalist. Fechenbach was born on January 28, 1894, in Bad Mergentheim and completed training in Würzburg. In 1933, he was shot by Nazis on his way to a concentration camp. The naming of the community center thus establishes a connection to a personality whose life and violent death are closely linked to the political history of the first half of the 20th century.

The history of the building itself is also remarkable. The site previously housed halls of the rapid printing factory Bohn & Herber. In 1937, Koenig & Bauer AG took over the company and established Plant II in Grombühl. Industrial use shaped the location for decades. In 1981, all production was relocated to the main plant. Subsequently, the property was transferred to the city of Würzburg, which developed a new use for the area.

The city commissioned Jörg and Sieglinde Braun-Feldweg to convert the assembly hall into a community center. In 1987, the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus was opened to the public. Parts of the industrial past are still visible today. Old steel beams near the counter and a memorial plaque in the entrance area remind of the building's former use. This creates a special connection between the architectural history of the place and its current function as a meeting point for culture, social services, and events.

In the house, in addition to event rooms, there were also a youth center, a social station, and a senior citizens' meeting place of the Workers' Welfare Association. This mix explains why the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is more than just a pure event location. It stands for an infrastructure that brings together different generations and areas of life. Children and young people, older people, clubs, cultural workers, and neighborhood initiatives can meet here.

The further development of the house has also been a question of neighborhood development. Municipal planning documents describe the goal of strengthening the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus as an intergenerational community center and non-commercial contact point for different target groups. Among other things, better usage options, cooperations, structural measures, additional cultural uses, and catering options were discussed. For visitors, this history means that every stay takes place in a place that connects visible traces of industry, memory, and current neighborhood life.

Access, Parking, and Accessibility on Gutenbergstraße

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is located at Gutenbergstraße 11, 97080 Würzburg, in the Grombühl district. The location is particularly convenient for public transport: The tram stop Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is right in front of the building. This makes the location suitable for events where many guests arrive from different parts of Würzburg. However, those attending an event should still check the current schedules and possible changes in the line service on the respective date.

For arrival by car, 20 underground parking spaces are mentioned. This number makes it clear that the parking spaces at the house are limited and may not automatically be sufficient for all visitors. Therefore, for larger events, it is advisable to prefer arriving by tram or other public transport. Current event notices have also pointed out the limited parking situation. Those who rely on a car should clarify in advance whether the underground garage can be used and whether special regulations apply for organizers, delivery traffic, or guests with mobility impairments.

The address Gutenbergstraße 11 should be noted carefully when arriving, as several event venues and facilities are located in close proximity in Würzburg. For suppliers, technical teams, and catering, it is advisable to coordinate setup times and access options early on. For events with a stage, seating, or exhibition, the delivery requirements may be greater than for a simple meeting. Early coordination helps avoid disruptions in public space and reliably organize the setup.

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is listed as barrier-free in the municipal cultural space exchange. This means that the location is generally suitable for people with mobility impairments. However, the specific accessibility of individual rooms, toilets, stage areas, and seating positions should be checked before each event, especially if guests have individual requirements for ramps, pathways, companions, or sightlines. Organizers should not wait until the day of the event to clarify corresponding questions but should address them during booking.

For visitors, it is advisable to arrive with enough time for orientation and entry. At highly attended events, neighborhood festivals, or cultural appointments, the available parking spaces can fill up quickly. The direct tram connection is therefore an important practical advantage of the house. The combination of public transport, limited underground parking spaces, and designated accessibility makes the venue well-planned for different target groups, provided that individual needs are considered in advance.

Community Center for Encounters, Clubs, and Würzburg Culture

The special strength of the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus lies in its combination of event space and social community center. Many locations are primarily perceived through their size, technology, or prominent events. The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus works differently: Its significance arises from its closeness to the people in Grombühl and from the possibility of connecting everyday encounters with culture, club life, and public events. This makes the atmosphere less about great distance but rather personal, open, and neighborly.

This is evident at neighborhood festivals as well as at cultural programs. A festival in front of and inside the house can bring together families, children, young people, older people, local institutions, and guests from other neighborhoods. Music, stage performances, information booths, play offers, and catering can be combined into a communal program. The use of the outdoor area expands the possibilities of the building and creates a visible connection between the house and the neighborhood.

Clubs also benefit from the location and room offerings. Club parties, annual general meetings, exhibitions, and meetings often do not require a huge hall but a reliable, adaptable place with basic equipment. The available tables and chairs, presentation technology, microphones, and stage options support different organizational forms. At the same time, the room size can be adjusted to smaller or medium formats without the occasion appearing lost in an oversized environment.

For cultural organizers, the place offers an interesting contrast to classic concert and theater houses. The Würzburg Jazz Festival is a striking example of this. Jazz thrives on closeness, interaction, and a concentrated atmosphere. A community center can highlight these qualities more than a very large hall. Film screenings, small concerts, and exhibitions also benefit from a setting where the audience and venue are directly connected.

At the same time, the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus should not be confused with a large event hall. The available information does not mention a fixed total capacity and indicates a use for small concerts and various event formats. For very large audiences or elaborate touring productions, other Würzburg venues are more suitable. The quality of the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus lies rather in the combination of flexible rooms, good accessibility, neighborhood reference, basic technical equipment, and historical identity.

Those planning an event in Würzburg and looking for an authentic, versatile venue should therefore not only decide based on maximum capacity. For conferences, club events, exhibitions, receptions, small cultural formats, and neighborhood festivals, the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus can be a suitable choice. The direct tram connection, 20 underground parking spaces, barrier-free designation, catering options, and flexible room layout are practical advantages. Additionally, there is the ideal value of a house that preserves history while creating space for current life in Grombühl.

Planning a Visit or Event at the Felix-Fechenbach-Haus

For attending an event, the respective organizer should initially be considered the main source of information. Start time, entry, ticket prices, seating arrangements, and notes on the box office may vary depending on the date. This also applies to the program of the Würzburg Jazz Festival, neighborhood festivals, club events, or individual exhibitions. The general location data of the house provides information about rooms and equipment but does not replace a specific event schedule.

Those planning a format themselves should mention as many key data as possible in the initial inquiry. This includes the desired date, the expected number of guests, the character of the event, the desired seating arrangement, the need for a stage and technology, as well as whether catering or an exhibition is planned. Setup and dismantling times are also important, as they can influence the availability of the house and the organization of other uses.

In conferences and meetings, it should be clarified whether projectors, microphones, sound systems, lecterns, pinboards, and flipcharts can be used in the planned form. For concerts, questions about the stage, sound reinforcement, electricity, instruments, setup, and neighborhood are particularly relevant. For banquets and receptions, table arrangements, serving, catering, cloakroom, and movement areas must be coordinated. For film screenings or exhibitions, blackout, projection area, display walls, and visitor guidance may play a role.

The room specifications provide a good initial orientation: Hall 1/2 comprises a total of 340 square meters, Hall 1 207 square meters, Hall 2 133 square meters, Gallery 1 135 square meters, and Gallery 2 67 square meters. However, these areas should not automatically be converted into a specific number of people. The actual occupancy depends on the type of seating, the use of stage and technology, escape routes, and the requirements for the specific event. Therefore, a binding capacity statement is only possible through the responsible authority.

The history of the house can also be incorporated into event communication. Old steel beams and the memorial plaque remind of the industrial past of the site. The name Felix Fechenbach refers to political history and memory culture. This provides the location with a narrative background that goes beyond mere room data. Especially for exhibitions, educational formats, neighborhood projects, or cultural events, this context can enrich the perception of the place.

The Felix-Fechenbach-Haus is thus a location for people looking for a well-accessible and versatile event venue with local identity. The rooms are designed for different formats, the equipment supports classic event processes, and the neighborhood reference creates a special atmosphere. Whether jazz, club party, conference, exhibition, reception, or neighborhood festival: The suitable use arises from careful coordination of space, program, and audience.

Nice air-conditioned room with seating. Plenty of space for kids to play. Right in front of the tram station. Perfect for 70-80 people for sure. Great for weddings, corporate events, etc.

The event with Elke Heidenreich was very humorous and entertaining. An interesting evening. The Fechenhaus itself is not very appealing and leaves a lot to be desired.
