Wein am Stein | Tickets & Dates 2025/2026

Wein am Stein is the cult festival in Würzburg Stein – an open-air experience of music, wine, and culinary delights with an unparalleled view over the city. Nestled among the vines of the south-facing steep slope, handcrafted biodynamic wines from our own production meet a curated live program. The atmosphere is both relaxed and energetic: summer evening, glass in hand, lights in the vineyards, sound from the stage – this is what Würzburg feels like in July. The festival is traditionally in high demand; tickets and table packages are limited and often sell out quickly on popular days. Good to know: Entry is staggered by weekday, and concerts usually start in the evening. First-time visitors are amazed by the location of the winery directly at Würzburg Stein, the short distances from the city center, and the harmonious interplay of music, regional cuisine, and top wines. Below you will find all the important, verified information about dates, opening hours, directions, parking, prices, wine tastings, and accommodation tips.

Tickets, Dates, and Program 2025/2026

For the 2025 season, Wein am Stein is scheduled from July 10 to July 27. Experience from previous years shows that individual evenings and special events can sell out in a short time. Those who want to be part of it should take care of tickets early and keep an eye on newsletter announcements. The save-the-date for 2026 is also already set: July 9 to July 26, 2026 – as planned, always from Wednesday to Sunday. The festival character has evolved over the decades from the original courtyard festival to a multi-day open-air event with daily live music: Several bands create a lively atmosphere among the vines, and even if the weather isn't perfect, it remains a cohesive summer experience thanks to the location and organization. The pre-sale for 2025 was planned for spring; for 2026, table packages and additional tickets are announced from February. Typically, there are individual tickets and table packages to distinguish. Individual tickets grant access to the grounds and concerts; free tables are available in limited numbers without reservation – those who arrive early have better chances. Table packages combine reserved seats with included wines or culinary components and officially include six entry tickets for the chosen date; additional friends can be added with extra individual tickets if available. In the past, there were also limited season passes (exceptions and exclusion days possible) that were only available on-site at the wine shop. The program structure is diverse: pop, indie, electro, brass, singer-songwriter – in previous years, artists like Shantel, Giant Rooks, Leoniden, Provinz, or Von Wegen Lisbeth have performed on stage. The exact line-ups vary annually and are released in stages; special formats (e.g., collaborations with local cultural partners) are added to individual evenings. Tip: Those with flexible date options should check not only the weekends but also the evenings during the week – the grounds are often a bit more relaxed then, although the atmosphere quickly rises in the evenings starting at 8:00 PM with the concert's beginning.

Opening Hours and Concert Times

The planned entry times are clearly regulated and facilitate travel planning: Monday to Friday, the grounds open at 4:30 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays, already at 3:00 PM. Live concerts usually start around 8:00 PM. The end is scheduled for 11:00 PM on weekdays, while Fridays and Saturdays will have performances until midnight. Those who have reserved a table should or at least one person from the group should arrive early to avoid losing the reservation. For everyone else, it is also worthwhile to arrive on time, as a contingent of non-reservable tables is allocated on-site on a first-come, first-served basis. The festival is designed as a pleasure format with music – during the day, relaxed arrival, tasting, and chatting are possible; in the evening, the stage begins to pulse without creating the character of a pure concert area. For night owls, there are occasional after-show offers in the city, for example, at Club Alter Ego; separate tickets are required for this. Since the festival is located on the steep slope of Würzburg Stein, sturdy footwear is recommended. Children and teenagers under 16 years may attend accompanied by parents; entry is free until the age of 14 (service according to German youth protection law). Dogs are generally allowed, but experience shows that the hustle and bustle is not ideal for every four-legged friend. Those who value independence can leave the grounds temporarily and check back in easily with a stamp – practical if you want to take a short walk along the Stein wine path before the concert. Please note: On certain days, cooperative events take place; details will be published on the festival website. Allow enough buffer time for entry and security checks, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Directions and Parking at Weingut am Stein

Wein am Stein takes place at the premises of Weingut am Stein, Mittlerer Steinbergweg 5, 97080 Würzburg – prominently located on the southern slope of Würzburg Stein above the city. Thanks to its city-center location, arriving without a car is particularly convenient: It is about a ten-minute walk from Würzburg main station and around fifteen minutes from the marketplace. Those arriving by bicycle will find a spacious bike parking area right at the entrance. Since parking spaces at the venue are very limited, the organizers strongly recommend parking in the city center (e.g., in the central parking garages) or using public transport. Those arriving by car should consider the topographical situation on the steep slope: The last section leads uphill, partly over stairs and steeper paths; comfortable shoes are advisable. For taxi services, the lower sections of Mittlerer Steinbergweg and Rotkreuzsteige are suitable drop-off points; it is only a few minutes' walk from there. Guests with motorhomes or campers can find alternatives in the city, such as the parking space at Friedensbrücke; from there, the festival grounds can be reached on foot in about fifteen minutes. Public transport users benefit from the frequent schedules of Würzburg trams and buses to the city center; thanks to the short walking distances, one can quickly reach the slope. Those traveling with light luggage will find it most relaxed before the main arrival of evening visitors around 6:30 PM. One more tip for the journey home: After the concert ends, the paths downhill can get congested; those who linger a few minutes longer in the sea of vines can avoid the biggest rush and enjoy the view of the illuminated city one last time.

Prices, Packages, and Reservations

The ticket structure combines individual tickets, table packages, and a limited number of season passes. Individual tickets are the simple entry point – they grant access to the venue and concerts. Some tables are intentionally non-reservable to ensure that early guests can find seats without a package. Table packages secure a fixed assigned table and usually include six entry tickets for the chosen date; however, a table typically accommodates around ten people, so the free chairs can be supplemented with additional individual tickets. This makes the packages particularly attractive for groups of friends or corporate evenings. For selected evenings, there are special formats, such as the pop-up restaurant at Stein in cooperation with the team of Alexander Herrmann (Imperial): Here, the booking includes a seat on the restaurant terrace with a fixed menu, aperitif, water, and festival access; the menu starts uniformly around 7:00 PM, restaurant entry from 6:00 PM, and access to the grounds from 4:30 PM. For the big closing Sunday in 2025 with Radio Gong, for example, a VIP ticket with additional services was offered; the listed individual price was 75 euros. In general: On days sold out online, there is no box office. Those who missed out sometimes find a small remaining contingent of tickets through wine package promotions in the online wine shop; otherwise, the only option left is the official ticket exchange or, if available, the transfer without cancellation in the friend circle. Historically, entry prices for regular evenings were in the low double-digit range; as offers, line-ups, and formats vary, it is advisable to check the current shop and daily FAQs. Important: Already purchased tickets are generally non-refundable but transferable (for table packages, the rebooking must be reported to the organizer). Those who come often should inquire about limited season passes: These are exclusively available in the wine shop with restrictions on certain days and are regularly sold out quickly. The mix of free and reserved seating areas maintains the balance between spontaneous visits and planning.

Wine Tastings, Wine Shop, and the Winery

Outside of the festival evenings, Weingut am Stein is a worthwhile destination for wine enthusiasts. With open tastings and masterclasses, there are two structured formats: The open tasting is perfect for individuals and small groups of up to six people to get to know the range and style in a relaxed atmosphere; the masterclass is aimed at ambitious connoisseurs who want to dive deeper into terroir, vintages, and aging. The wine shop is generally open Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM; between January and March, it is open on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The address for all offers is Mittlerer Steinbergweg 5, 97080 Würzburg. The winery was founded in 1890 by the Knoll family and is now run in the fifth generation by Sandra and Ludwig Knoll. Since 2006, the operation has been fully organic, and since 2008 biodynamic – consistently in the vineyard and cellar. The vines grow in renowned Franconian locations, including Würzburger Stein, Innere Leiste, Stettener Stein, and other parcels; the terroir is characterized by shell limestone and gives Silvaner, Riesling, Burgundy, and other varieties their distinctive, mineral signature. Architecturally, the estate was modernized in the 2000s; the clear lines of wood, glass, and exposed concrete blend into the topography. The festival itself began in the mid-1980s as a courtyard festival by friends for friends and has gradually grown into the iconic format it is today. In recent years, special series and collaborations have also been established, such as electronic nights or pop-up concepts. Those visiting Würzburg in late autumn can experience the city from a different perspective during the Night of Open Wine Cellars: Several VDP wineries open their cellars, including tours and tastings. For visitor groups, the winery also offers individual corporate events in a special ambiance (approximately 50 to 200 people, upon request).

Hotels within Walking Distance and Accommodation Tips

Wein am Stein benefits from its proximity to the city: Many accommodations can be reached on foot. Several houses in different categories are officially recommended. In the upscale category, the Schlosshotel Steinburg stands out with its location on the slope and view over Würzburg; The Bartels Boutique is city-close and modern. In the mid-range, Maritim Hotel and Motel One are reliable addresses with good transport connections and stable service quality. For budget-conscious travelers, Ibis Hotels are mentioned – they offer functional rooms, efficient processes, and a predictable arrival and departure. Those who want to be even closer should pay attention to the in-house guesthouse at the winery: With a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a terrace in the middle of the sea of vines, it is a characterful retreat; thanks to short distances to the main station (about one kilometer) and the old town, it is ideal for a car-free weekend. Reservations should be made early, as many visitors combine their festival visit with a trip to Würzburg. When packing, remember: sturdy footwear for the slope, a light jacket for later hours, and a small bag instead of bulky backpacks facilitate entry and mobility. Those arriving by camper can use city parking spaces such as at Friedensbrücke and switch to walking or taxi for the last stretch. For larger groups, it is worthwhile to coordinate table and possibly menu reservations and to inquire about room contingents when choosing hotels. Between two festival days, the city offers plenty of programs – from the cathedral to the Marienberg fortress, from the banks of the Main to small wine bars; thus, the evening at Stein fits into a rounded Würzburg weekend.

Special Features, Culinary Offerings, and Festival Atmosphere

What makes Wein am Stein unmistakable is the combination of landscape, craftsmanship, and cultural aspiration. During the day, the heat shimmers over the Stein vineyards, and in the evening, a breeze sweeps over the terraces as the city lights come on below. The wines come entirely from our own, organically certified cultivation; the range includes fresh VDP.Guts- and VDP.Ortsweine, vineyard wines, and selected VDP.Großen Gewächsen and large bottles. Culinary-wise, the team collaborates with renowned partners; each year, a mix of Franconian classics, vegetarian dishes, and modern interpretations is created. The pop-up restaurant at Stein brings additional experiential quality: menu seats on the terrace with a view of the stage and vineyards combine fine dining and festival charm – community tables included. For those who prefer a more casual experience, food stalls are available, or one can secure picnic baskets, some of which can be pre-ordered and picked up at the stand. An organizational detail that adds comfort: re-entry via stamp – practical for a short detour or to catch the sunset from the next viewpoint. Accessible entrances are partially available; additionally, a table at the catwalk is reserved for wheelchair users. The festival is family-friendly, offering free entry up to age 14 (under parental supervision) and a grounds layout that provides sufficient quiet zones beside the stage. Safety and flow benefit from clear time windows – those who want to avoid waiting should use the early entry times. Since Mondays and Tuesdays are scheduled differently each year (cooperations, special concerts, rest days), it is worthwhile to check the current daily program. As a wine tourism focal point of the region, Wein am Stein opens the door to the Franconian wine world every year simultaneously: The Stein wine path, city tours, museums, and the Main are just steps away and provide additional context for the evening. In the end, one image remains: music among the vines, glass in hand, the city at your feet – and the feeling of being part of something typically Würzburg that has grown with a lot of passion since the 1980s.

A very nice place to hang out. This time we took advantage of the open wine cellar night and hiked up to the winery. There’s a path right along the winery with an incredible number of stairs. Perfect for training your fitness 😉 Upon arrival, we found a lovely winery with various options to explore. Nice fire pits that created a great additional atmosphere. We had a stew that was incredibly delicious. We would have loved to try the platter with ham and cheese, but unfortunately, it was only available for 2 people and that was too much for us. The platter cost €29.90 and it would have been a shame to leave half of it. Recommendation: There are many people who travel alone or like to try several items from menus, and the overall sales would definitely increase with such options rather than just the either-or option. The wine was okay, but here too, it was poured milliliter by milliliter, drop by drop 🤭 Again, it would be nice to let it spill over by a milliliter rather than under, the prices definitely justify that. Overall, it was very nice and gets a clear recommendation with some deductions in the B-grade.

Very nice location for concerts right in the vineyards. Enjoying live music with a glass of wine among the vines is just lovely. 1 *- We were at the concert of Peter Maffay. On 07.07.2025, there were way too many people on the grounds in our opinion. People were crowding on the steps everywhere, and we didn’t even bother to queue for a Flammkuchen. The wine sales were well organized, but they could have offered pretzels as well. A tip for next time: arrive early, reserve a spot, and don’t get up again! ;-) Thanks to Peter, we still had a super great evening! 👍👍👍👍👍

I don't even know where to start – Wine at the Stone was so much more than just a wine festival for me: It was an experience full of joy, enjoyment, and a unique atmosphere! The view over the vineyards at sunset was simply breathtaking – you stand up there and feel like time stands still. Plus, this unmistakable sound of relaxed music, cheerful laughter, and the soft clinking of wine glasses – simply magical. The selection of wines? World-class! Every sip a delight, perfectly tuned to the summer vibe. I rarely felt so much love for detail in the presentation and quality – from the first greeting to the last glass. The people? Warm, open, cheerful. It’s as if all of Würzburg transforms into a Mediterranean paradise for a few hours. And the best part: You can feel that this is not just a festival being held – Wine at the Stone is a lived passion for wine, culture, and togetherness. I will come back – no question. Those who miss this miss a piece of joy in life.

A great location, delicious drinks, and good food. Whether during the day in the sunshine or in the evening with beautiful lights - it's worth it. We sat in the lower area at the 2nd Floor. It was quiet there all day... there was no music and you didn’t hear anything from the stage, etc. That was boring and very unfortunate. At least some background music would have been nice. Unfortunately, the servers who were walking around and selling wine, etc., could only accept cash - we would have liked to know that beforehand.

It was a great experience, Peter Maffay was amazing as always 👍🏽. Very nice spot, the service was very friendly and always asked if we wanted something to drink. Food and coffee were unfortunately very expensive.
