Winery Reiss | Wine Tasting & Wine Hiking
The Winery Reiss in Würzburg-Unterdürrbach combines Franconian wine tradition with modern ideas in the vineyard, cellar, and presentation. Located at Unterdürrbacher Straße 182, this family winery offers guests not only bottle sales and tastings but a comprehensive experience around wine, landscape, and Würzburg. Those looking for Winery Reiss Würzburg, Winery Reiss Unterdürrbach, or a special wine tasting in Franconia will find a place where the journey from vine to glass is comprehensible.
At the center of the wine work is the Silvaner, one of the most important grape varieties in Franconia. The range is complemented by other classic white and red grape varieties. The winery shows interest in different forms of development, including maceration fermentation and aging in amphorae. During tours, wine seminars, and wine walks, these topics are communicated understandably and enjoyably.
Particularly appealing is the connection with the Würzburger Stein. This vineyard is one of the most famous wine locations in the region and offers impressive views of the bishop's city during guided tours. A wine tasting at Winery Reiss can therefore be much more than a tasting indoors: it can connect cellar, vines, terroir, Franconian snacks, and personal conversations.
Winery Reiss Würzburg and Unterdürrbach: Location, History, and Character
The Winery Reiss is located in the Würzburg district of Unterdürrbach, north of the city center. The exact address is Unterdürrbacher Straße 182, 97080 Würzburg. The location is in a landscape where the city, vineyards, and Mainfranken are closely interconnected. For visitors, this location is particularly interesting because it allows for easy access to Würzburg's wine culture. One does not just visit a sales room but an active winery in direct proximity to the vine fields.
The Reiss family has been cultivating wine in the region since the 19th century, according to the German Wine Institute. The operation developed into an independent winery in 1960. Today, the family winery is run by Christian and Martina Reiss. This combination of a long history and contemporary management shapes the character of the house. Tradition is not understood as a rigid concept but as a basis for careful work, regional identity, and an open attitude towards new methods.
Unterdürrbach is a suitable location for the wine landscape of Würzburg. The vineyards around Würzburg are characterized by Franconian shell limestone soils and a comparatively warm climate. Such conditions are often associated with wines that can appear mineral, dry, and clear. However, the actual characteristics of a particular vintage depend on weather, location, grape variety, yield, and development. These differences make a wine tasting at the producer particularly interesting, as visitors can compare several wines and ask questions directly on site.
The Winery Reiss is described in regional descriptions as an innovative family winery. In addition to classic grape varieties, new approaches in wine development play a role. These include maceration fermentation and aging in amphorae. Such processes change the texture, aroma, and mouthfeel of a wine and invite conscious tasting. For wine enthusiasts, this creates an exciting contrast: on one side is the familiar Franconian Silvaner, and on the other side are experiments and alternative forms of development.
The high public rating of 4.9 stars from 115 reviews, mentioned in the provided location data, also shows a very positive response from visitors. Reviews do not replace personal inspection but indicate that personal care, wine quality, and the atmosphere of the winery are appreciated by many guests. Those wishing to visit Winery Reiss should plan their stay as a pleasure trip and allow some time for conversations, questions, and views of the surrounding wine landscape.
Winery Reiss Wine Tasting: From Cellar Tour to Tasting
A wine tasting at Winery Reiss is tailored to different visitor groups. Individual travelers are welcome in the vinotheque for tastings, while groups can book wine tastings and tours by arrangement. The published offers mention variants with three or six wines. Depending on the format, a cellar tour, welcome sparkling wine, bread or Franconian snack specialties, and mineral water are included. The exact composition, price, and available duration should be directly inquired before booking, as offers and conditions may change.
A classic wine tasting with three wines is particularly suitable if guests are looking for a compact introduction to the winery's style. It can provide a first impression of grape varieties, vintage, and development. A more extensive tasting with six wines offers more comparison opportunities. Visitors can perceive differences between Silvaner, Riesling, Weißburgunder, or other Franconian varieties. The comparison of different quality levels or development types becomes easier to understand during a longer tasting.
The cellar tour enhances the experience with the practical side of viticulture. In the cellar, it becomes visible that wine does not end with the harvest. After the harvest come processing, fermentation, aging, control, and bottling. Temperature, containers, contact with skins and yeasts, and the duration of aging influence the result. For guests, such a tour is particularly valuable because it explains the connection between landscape and finished wine. Terms like maceration fermentation or amphora aging are not left abstract but can be understood in connection with the winery's operational decisions.
In group tastings, the social aspect is also added. Wine is traditionally enjoyed in Franconia with regional food, conversations, and shared time. Bread, Franconian specialties, and mineral water accompany the tasting without overshadowing the wine. This makes a wine tasting at Winery Reiss a suitable program point for clubs, company outings, private celebrations, travel groups, and circles of friends. The published information mentions group areas for about ten to 80 people for various wine tastings. Especially for larger groups, an early inquiry is advisable.
Those with little experience in wine do not need to bring any specialist knowledge. A good tasting begins with observing color and clarity, moves on to scent and first aromas, and ends with the taste impression. In the case of Silvaner, depending on the origin and development, herbs, yellow fruits, mineral notes, or a dry, structured character may stand out. What matters is not to give a supposedly correct answer but to perceive one's impressions. The winery provides the right framework to ask questions and get to know Franconian wines without hesitation.
Winery Reiss Wine Hiking and Wine Walk in the Würzburger Stein
The wine hike or Wine Walk is one of the most characteristic experiences around Winery Reiss. The tour starts at the winery's courtyard in Unterdürrbach with a glass of sparkling wine. It then leads through the Würzburger Stein vineyard. Participants receive information about viticulture, terroir, and the traditions that shape the wines of the region. The landscape is not just a backdrop: the vines, soil conditions, slopes, and view of Würzburg are directly incorporated into the explanation.
For the public dates published for 2026, a period from April 18 to October 31 is indicated. The Wine Walks take place on Saturdays at 2:00 PM and last approximately three hours. The price of 49.50 euros per person includes, according to the published event information, a sparkling wine, four wine tastings, three pieces of pastry, mineral water, wine glasses, and a glass bag. Since dates, prices, and services can be seasonally adjusted, interested parties should check the current information from the city of Würzburg or the winery before visiting.
The description of the tour emphasizes that three wines are tasted in the vineyard, and at the end, a special drop awaits in the illuminated wine cellar. This sequence creates a clear tension arc. The visit begins openly and lightly with a sparkling start, leads into the landscape, and ends in the more concentrated atmosphere of the cellar. Savory sticks or pastries accompany the wine tastings. This creates an experience that combines physical movement, views, and enjoyment.
The Würzburger Stein is one of the most famous wine locations in Franconia. During a wine hike, it becomes clear why this location is so important for Würzburg's wine identity. The vineyards lie above the city and open up the view of the bishop's city. Depending on the weather and season, light, colors, and atmosphere change. In spring, the vines are at the beginning of growth, in summer the landscape appears lush, and in late summer and autumn, ripening grapes and warm colors shape the image.
The tour is suitable for visitors who want to experience wine not only by tasting but also in its surroundings. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are advisable, as paths in the vineyard can be uneven or slippery depending on the weather. Private group tours are offered by arrangement. The published information mentions a minimum price of 594 euros for private Wine Walks. For binding planning, a direct inquiry with group size, desired date, and desired additional services is recommended.
Silvaner, Rotling, and Franconian Grape Varieties at Winery Reiss
The Silvaner is the flagship variety at Winery Reiss. In Franconia, this grape variety has special significance and is part of the regional wine profile. Silvaner can appear very differently depending on location, yield, harvest time, and development. Young, dry variants can seem fresh, herbal, and mineral, while more mature wines can develop more depth and a calmer structure. That is why it is worthwhile to not view Silvaner as a uniform taste but to compare different bottlings and vintages.
The winery's range includes, according to the published grape variety information, in addition to Silvaner, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe, Bacchus, Rieslaner, Traminer, Yellow Muscat, as well as red varieties like Spätburgunder and Schwarzriesling. This diversity allows for various styles, from light and uncomplicated wines for everyday use to more characterful bottlings that are suitable as companions for meals.
The search term Rotling indicates an interest in rosé-colored wines made from red and white grapes. Whether a specific Rotling is currently available in the range should be directly inquired at the winery. The same applies to specific vintages, Bocksbeutel, gift packages, and seasonal offers. An online price list may change due to new vintages, sold-out wines, or changes in shipping and pickup. Therefore, a current inquiry is more reliable than an outdated price indication from third sources.
The Franconian wine landscape is closely associated with the Bocksbeutel. This characteristic bottle shape is a visible sign of Franconian wine and is encountered by visitors in many wineries in the region. However, at Winery Reiss, the focus is not only on the packaging but primarily on the content and the story behind it. Expert advice can explain which grape variety is suitable for which occasion, how a wine should be served, and which dishes support its characteristics.
Particularly exciting is the connection between classic grape varieties and modern cellar ideas. Maceration fermentation or amphora aging can make a wine richer in structure, spicier, or more textured. The effect depends on the specific wine and should not be judged in general. During a tasting, guests can perceive their own differences and discuss them with the team. This makes the visit interesting even for experienced wine lovers who are looking for new interpretations alongside regional classics.
Opening Hours, Directions, and Visit to Winery Reiss
Winery Reiss is located at Unterdürrbacher Straße 182 in 97080 Würzburg-Unterdürrbach. For arrival by car, regional information describes the drive from Würzburg via the B27 towards Karlstadt and the Unterdürrbach exit. From there, the winery is about one kilometer on the right side. Since traffic guidance and signage may change, visitors should also use a current navigation system.
The published entries mention opening hours from Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, as well as Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Other older directories list different times. This is not unusual for wineries, as harvest, events, holidays, operational processes, and seasonal sales times must be taken into account. Those specifically wishing to buy wine or do a tasting should therefore inquire by phone at 0931 94600 or by email before arriving.
No reliable, detailed information about a private parking lot or a specific parking garage has been published regarding the parking situation. For this reason, one should not automatically assume a large parking capacity. For groups, older guests, or arrivals with multiple vehicles, it is advisable to clarify parking options directly with the winery. The question of barrier-free access, toilets, seating options, and a meeting point for tours can also be discussed in advance.
Those arriving by public transport should check the connection to Unterdürrbach and the subsequent walking distance. Event information mentions stops in the vicinity, including Schwarzer Weg and Am Dürrbach. The actual walking time depends on the starting point, route, and weather. For a Wine Walk, sufficient time should be planned so that the group arrives punctually at the winery's courtyard. For booked group tours, the meeting point is generally the Winery Reiss at Unterdürrbacher Straße 182.
A visit can be well combined with other Würzburg experiences. The proximity to the Würzburger Stein, the view of the city, and the wine tradition of the Mainfranken region make the winery a suitable destination for half or a whole day. Guests can first explore the vineyards, then attend a tasting, and afterwards experience Würzburg's old town, the residence, or the Main. Those taking wine bottles should pay attention to keeping them cool and protected in summer.
Winery Reiss Events, Group Offers, and Special Experiences
The event offerings of the winery go beyond the classic wine tasting. Regional tourism information mentions cellar and vineyard tours, wine seminars, culinary tastings, and individual tours. This makes the winery suitable for various occasions. A couple can visit a tasting as a day trip, a group can book a cellar tour with wine tasting, and companies can request a regional program point for a team day or customer event.
The Wine Walks are public dates with a fixed schedule. Private group tours, on the other hand, offer more planning flexibility. The date can be coordinated with the winery, and depending on the occasion, duration, group size, and culinary accompaniment can be discussed. The published information mentions groups of ten to 80 people for various formats. For larger groups, it should be clarified early on which room and format are suitable. Even for smaller groups, a reservation is advisable if a specific time or wine is desired.
A wine seminar can focus more on knowledge and tasting. Topics can include grape varieties, Franconian locations, soil, vintage, development, or food pairing. Whether a specific seminar takes place depends on the current program. Guests should indicate whether they are beginners or already experienced wine lovers when making inquiries. This way, the winery can better assess how technical or practical the event should be designed.
Culinary tastings combine wine with regional cuisine. Franconia is known for hearty snacks and a down-to-earth food culture. Bread, cheese, sausage, seasonal specialties, or a multi-course menu can highlight different wine styles depending on the event. A dry Silvaner, for example, can be interesting with light appetizers, asparagus, or fish, while more robust wines allow for other combinations. What dishes are actually offered should always be inquired about at the respective date.
Photos from Winery Reiss typically show vineyards, cellars, bottles, tastings, and views of Würzburg. For planning an event, images are helpful but do not replace current information about room layout. Those organizing a celebration or group appointment should ask about seating, standing areas, bad weather options, technology, lighting, and accessibility. Especially the Wine Walk takes place partly outdoors, while the cellar conclusion offers a different atmosphere. The combination of landscape and interior space is a significant appeal of the offering.
Personal contact is also part of the winery's character. Wine is not presented anonymously but connected with origin, work, and people. Visitors can learn how a vintage develops, why a grape variety was chosen, or what decisions were made in the cellar. These conversations make the difference between a mere purchase and a genuine wine experience. Those who ask openly and taste attentively often take home more than just a bottle.
Winery Reiss Price List, Reviews, and Practical Planning
Many search queries focus on a price list for wines, prices for wine tastings, or reviews. For bottled wines, it is advisable to request the current price list directly from the winery or visit the vinotheque. Vintages change, individual wines may be sold out, and new bottlings are added. Therefore, a fixed, permanently valid overview cannot be reliably derived from older publications. For orders, shipping costs, minimum quantities, pickup, and availability should also be clarified.
For group tastings, various prices have been mentioned in regional offers. A tasting with three wines was described with a cellar tour and accompaniment, while a tasting with six wines includes more time and a larger tasting. Newer Wine Walk information for 2026 mentions 49.50 euros per person, including sparkling wine, four wine tastings, pastries, mineral water, glasses, and a glass bag. These details apply only to the described format and should be confirmed before booking.
Reviews can provide insights into atmosphere, advice, wine quality, and service. The provided location data mentions 4.9 stars from 115 reviews. When interpreting reviews, it is worth paying attention to recurring themes. Individual reviews reflect personal expectations, while many consistent comments indicate typical experiences. However, practical questions are also important for a visit: Are seats reserved, is registration required, can children or dogs be brought, and how long does the event last?
Those visiting the winery for the first time should distinguish between shopping, tasting, and tours. For a spontaneous wine purchase, the published opening hours may suffice, but a brief inquiry is advisable. For a wine tasting or wine hike, registration is required or strongly recommended. Public Wine Walks have fixed dates and limited spaces. Private group offers are planned by arrangement and require information on the number of people, desired date, and desired scope.
The weather also plays a role. A wine hike goes through the vineyards and is therefore dependent on dry paths, temperature, and daylight. Comfortable shoes, a water bottle, sun protection, and a light jacket can make the stay more pleasant. In warm weather, wine bottles should not be left in a hot car for long. Those arriving by public transport should plan the return journey after a tasting particularly carefully and handle alcohol responsibly.
As a destination, Winery Reiss is suitable for many interests. Wine lovers can discover new grape varieties, culture-interested guests can learn more about Würzburg's wine landscape, groups can have a shared experience, and visitors from the region can get to know an unknown side of the city. The special value lies in the combination of family business, Franconian grape varieties, modern cellar work, vineyard tours, and the view of Würzburg.
Those searching for Winery Reiss Steinbach, Winery Reiss and Luff, or similar search terms should pay attention to clearly identifying the desired operation. The winery described here is located in Würzburg-Unterdürrbach at Unterdürrbacher Straße 182. For reservations, current opening hours, specific wine availability, prices, and events, the direct contact details of the winery are the most reliable point of contact.

We were there for the bachelorette party. It was actually quite random since our original activity was canceled at the last minute. Martina helped us out and we ended up doing a wine hike with snacks, wine, and lots of info about viticulture. In retrospect, it was just the better alternative. We had so much fun, Martina gave us an unforgettable afternoon with her warm and relaxed manner. The bride and the crew are more than happy! 🫶 Thanks for that, we will come back!

A big thank you to the team at Weingut Reiss, especially to Antje. She made the wine tour something really special. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about wine and its taste in the best weather. Of course, we also took home some wine from Weingut Reiss, which the owner had prepared for us to pick up the next day. We can only highly recommend them. Thank you. Anke Schrepel

We were there for a culinary wine tasting with a truffle menu. It was incredibly delicious. The wines served with it paired very well. We were given a little introduction to each wine. And they refilled as often as we wanted. It was a beautiful evening with excellent food and outstanding wines.
