Wilhelminenaue | Events & Concerts 2026
The Wilhelminenaue in Bayreuth is a young landscape park with strong cultural appeal: Where the State Garden Show took place in 2016, a freely accessible area has been created since April 8, 2017, which uniquely combines leisure, nature experience, and culture. Along the Red Main, the floodplain park extends as a green axis to the Eremitage, creating distinctive places to linger and celebrate with its landscape cabinets. The lakeside stage with lawn seating and the hedge theater are particularly attractive for both organizers and visitors – two open-air venues that develop into lively meeting points during the summer months. Additionally, the cultural kiosk at the lakeside stage serves as the gastronomic and programmatic heart, where a diverse festival will take place again in June 2026. Those looking for an evening of music, comedy, or literature by the water will find a stage here, as well as space for families, athletes, and walkers to play, move, and unwind during the day. Thanks to good accessibility, recommended parking spaces, and public transport lines, getting there is uncomplicated – and the sunset over the lake gives many evenings a unique sparkle.
Events and Concerts 2026 in the Wilhelminenaue
The cultural year 2026 continues a success story in the Wilhelminenaue: Since 2021, the cultural kiosk festival has provided intimate, high-quality live evenings by the water. In 2026, the cultural kiosk will again transform into an open-air stage in June – with a pre-sale that reflects the high demand. The festival block from Friday, June 5, 2026, to Saturday, June 13, 2026, offers a spectrum ranging from musical cabaret to tribute shows to indie and Bavarian folk music. Among others, Helmut A. Binser (June 5), Goethes Erben with their tour “Dystopia Eats Empathy” (June 6), Graceland: A Tribute to Simon & Garfunkel (June 7), and The Magic of Queen feat. Markus Engelstaedter (June 9) are mentioned. On June 10, Marina Seidel & Band will perform, on June 11 DOTA with new material, on June 12 the Schlagerclub, and on June 13 the Well Brothers. This selection exemplifies the ambition to create great feelings in a small space: The lakeside location, the proximity between stage and audience, and the characteristic summer evening sound create experiences that remain memorable. In addition to the festival, other series shape the calendar: The Franconian Theater Summer regularly plays at the hedge theater – a green-framed performance area that gives theater and cabaret an intimate atmosphere. Additionally, there are sporting formats like the Mainauenlauf, services in the Oratorium, and guided tours at the St. Georgen model. In total, a yearly cycle fills the floodplain with life from the start of spring to early autumn. The lakeside stage itself is variably usable and can accommodate up to around 3,000 guests, depending on the event. For specific dates, entry times, possible seating plans, or special features (e.g., standing vs. seating areas, possibly free seating), the respective event pages of the organizers serve as the authoritative source of information. Those planning a spontaneous visit should check in advance whether areas are cordoned off on concert days and if there are any last-minute program changes. Historically interesting: Shortly after the park opened, the local scene ventured into larger formats; for example, an open-air event by Saalmitte in 2017 is considered an early spark for what the floodplain has become as a festival site today. The fact that big names and regional favorite artists now perform across genres shows how much the Wilhelminenaue has become part of Bayreuth's cultural identity.
Cultural Kiosk at the Lakeside Stage: Program, Opening Hours, and Atmosphere
The cultural kiosk at the lakeside stage is a meeting point, stage, and hub in one. The team around Cornelius “Coco” Sturm and Ulla Preiß serves visitors of the Wilhelminenaue with drinks and snacks – and provides a handpicked cultural program during the warm season. Between trees, meadows, and water, a special closeness emerges that characterizes small open-air venues: short distances, friendly service, conversations between the audience and artists after the performance. The program design consciously follows the principle of “fine instead of huge”: Live concerts, readings, cabaret, and special themed evenings bear the hallmark of a host culture that focuses on atmosphere and quality. The festival in June 2026 is the flagship for this – with evenings that promise “great concerts and unforgettable sunsets” even in the announcement. Conveniently, the kiosk is located directly at the lakeside stage, allowing festival visitors to switch effortlessly between enjoyment and music. For up-to-date opening hours, additional dates, and short-term announcements, the kiosk uses its web and social profiles. This keeps the community close, especially when additional shows are added, times are adjusted due to weather conditions, or special promotions are announced. The gastronomic concept is deliberately unpretentious – fitting the park atmosphere. Those coming with family or friends will find seating and lounging areas on the meadows, while the grassy green invites relaxed observation of the stage events. The lakeside location also brings acoustic advantages: The sound unfolds openly, without harsh reflections, and carries pleasantly across the area. For arrival and process: There are no parking spaces directly at the concert area; nearby areas along the Äußere Badstraße and at the Volksfestplatz are recommended. Depending on the format, the area in front of the stage is either seated, designated as a standing area, or remains usable as a free meadow – so it’s worth taking a look at the respective event description. And for those who just want to stop by for a drink, the cultural kiosk offers the floodplain as it is in everyday life: a friendly place to be outdoors.
Directions and Parking at the Wilhelminenaue
The Wilhelminenaue is easily accessible – on foot, by bike, by bus, or by car. For motorized arrival: There are no parking spaces directly at the concert area of the lakeside stage or at the cultural kiosk. The main access points are the parking lot Wilhelminenaue at the Äußere Badstraße and the Volksfestplatz, from where the walking distance to the concert area is about 5–10 minutes. Additionally, city and tourist offices recommend the parking garage P1 Oberfrankenhalle/Am Sportpark (about 700 spaces) for heavily attended events, as well as parking areas at the ZENTRUM, on Grünewaldstraße, along Kerschensteinerstraße, and at the Schulzentrum Ost. Those using a navigation system should use the address Äußere Badstraße 27 (95448 Bayreuth) for the nearby parking lot at the Chamber of Crafts and walk a few minutes from there to the lake and cultural kiosk. Several park entrances are available for cyclists and pedestrians, including at Eremitagestraße, Albrecht-Dürer-Straße, and from the camper parking lot on Grünewaldstraße. The lakeside stage is quickly reachable from the city center by public transport: From the ZOH, lines 302 (Hammerstadt, stop Volksfestplatz) and 303 (Seulbitz Alm, stop Wilhelminenaue) go to the lakeside stage. On foot, you can calculate about 20 minutes from the city to the floodplain. For group and bus trips, designated parking areas around the Volksfestplatz and Sportpark are available, depending on parallel large events like the Volksfest or lakeside stage festival; it’s worth checking the current notices from the organizers. Regardless of the mode of transport: Please keep emergency routes clear and consider the loss of parking spaces during events – on event days, demand is high, so early arrival or arriving by bike/bus is the more relaxing choice. Those wanting to explore the park during the day can ride their bikes along marked paths directly to the Red Main and the landscape cabinets; the path layout is intuitive, and maps and route information can be found in tourist information brochures.
Today in the Wilhelminenaue: Tips for Current Events
“What’s happening today?” – this question in the Wilhelminenaue depends on the season, day of the week, and weather. While large festival blocks are often communicated early, smaller formats and spontaneous additional shows fill the calendar between May and September. Those wanting to plan for the day should first check two official sources: the event calendar of the Wilhelminenaue and the program of the cultural kiosk festival (including ticket shop). Here, information on entry times, possible seating, youth protection, weather and noise protection regulations, as well as rules for bringing items and safety can be found. Series like the Franconian Theater Summer at the hedge theater also publish their Bayreuth dates there. At the same time, the floodplain remains a park landscape with diverse offerings during the day: play and lounging meadows, a barbecue area, beach volleyball, and a dirt bike facility invite free visits; canoeing is possible at the Red Main depending on water levels and safety guidelines. Families will find child-friendly infrastructure: The water playground “Fossillilinseln” is located directly on the riverbank, while to the west behind the panoramic cabinet “Schöne Aussicht,” the imaginative playground “Wolkenkuckucksheim” awaits with oversized birdhouses. The intensively maintained areas with contemporary garden art are cared for by the city garden office and give the floodplain its characteristic color spaces. Those wanting to take photos can use the elevated event and observation balconies of the landscape cabinets as well as the shore zones around the lake. On concert days, there may be access restrictions; then, certain areas are temporarily accessible only with a ticket. Therefore, for “today,” it helps to check online shortly before departure whether a setup is underway or if the lakeside stage is being played. For spontaneous evening plans, the cultural kiosk festival with its clearly communicated times is a good option – and if nothing is happening today, the floodplain is still a gain: a park for breathing, for a walk into the sunset, or for a drink by the water.
Photos, Highlights, and Experience Places: Lakeside Stage, Hedge Theater, Wolkenkuckucksheim
The Wilhelminenaue has what many urban parks lack: strong, recognizable places. First, the lakeside stage – an open performance area directly by the water with lawn seating, suitable for concerts, theater, or film formats alike. Its variable capacity of up to about 3,000 people makes it the ideal place for medium-sized summer evenings: large enough for concert atmosphere, small enough for closeness. Second, the hedge theater – a space framed by greenery, where theater and cabaret evenings have an intimate, almost Mediterranean charm. Third, the distinctive landscape cabinets: designed as elevated balconies over the floodplain, they concentrate views and create spaces for sports, culture, and quiet zones. Between them, a network of paths, meadows, and shore zones stretches, suitable for strolling as well as picnicking. For families, two points are particularly relevant: the water playground “Fossillilinseln” directly on the Red Main and the playground “Wolkenkuckucksheim” with its oversized birdhouses – both places are experiences and photo motifs at the same time. For sports, a beach volleyball court, a dirt bike facility, and soccer fields provide variety; additionally, there are lounging and gymnastics meadows and a barbecue area. Culturally, the Oratorium expands the spectrum with contemplative formats. That the floodplain is more than just a beautiful park is shown by the care from the city garden office and the city's integration: As a “new building block” in the urban structure, the Wilhelminenaue connects the city center along the Red Main with the Eremitage – a landscape bracket that lets Bayreuth breathe. For photography fans, the golden hour and twilight are worthwhile: then, stage silhouettes and trees reflect in the water, and the perspective from the landscape balconies on the lakeside stage and lake provides motifs with depth. Those planning concert photos should please respect the rules of the organizers (e.g., restrictions on professional equipment). And for those looking beyond the day, they will discover how the floodplain structures the cultural year: with festival blocks, recurring theater dates, and spontaneous formats that keep the area sounding anew.
Christmas Market at the Cultural Kiosk: Background and Outlook
Beyond summer, a small, atmospheric winter format has established itself at the cultural kiosk at the lakeside stage in the past: the Christmas market at the cultural kiosk. The idea: a manageable, atmospheric gathering with lights, drinks, and music in the midst of the floodplain – a counter-design to large city center markets. According to local reports, two editions have been realized so far before the market paused in 2025 for organizational reasons; the operator indicated at that time the possibility of returning the following year. Whether and in what form an edition will take place in 2026 will be decided through the official channels of the cultural kiosk and the usual event overviews. For visitors, this means: inform yourself in good time, as small formats especially thrive on personal planning and short communication. Practically, the infrastructure remains the same: The same arrival recommendations as in summer apply, parking directly at the area is not planned; a short walk through the winter park leads from the nearest places (Wilhelminenaue at the Äußere Badstraße, Volksfestplatz). And even though the floodplain appears naturally quieter in December than in June, the strength of the place shows here: culture that integrates into the landscape – whether as a large open-air event with several thousand guests or as a small, glowing gathering at the kiosk. The outlook for 2026 remains open but hopeful: should the Christmas market return, it will be as a deliberately intimate experience that brings the floodplain to life in the cold season.

Had a fun time with friends here, the kiosk served wheat beer in a glass which was really nice. I put the glass back to the stall I got it from, the kiosk was closed when we left.

Nice place for biking, exercise, walking dogs, playing beach volleyball or soccer. Has a outdoor concert area next to the water. Other than that, nothing much to look at (except weird architecture).
