Wirtshaus am Dom Würzburg | Menu & Opening Hours

In the heart of Würzburg's old town, at Paradeplatz between the Cathedral and the Residence, Wirtshaus am Dom welcomes its guests with a cuisine that lovingly preserves Franconian classics while also interpreting them in a contemporary way. The goal is clear: regional ingredients, plenty of time following the principle of "Slow Cooking," and hospitality that feels like a visit to good friends. Those seeking authentic Franconian cuisine will find it here, as well as those who prefer lighter, seasonal options. The establishment is open daily, and reservations can be made easily online, by phone, or via email, with a dedicated contact person for groups. The location at Paradeplatz allows for easy access on foot, by tram, or by car via the surrounding parking garages. In summer, outdoor dining expands the seating options, and throughout the year, carefully selected beers and wines accompany the cuisine. This overview consolidates the most important practical information – from the menu and opening hours to reservations and contact details, as well as directions, parking, and the popular topic of "Are dogs allowed?".

Menu and Franconian Cuisine at Wirtshaus am Dom

The menu reflects the Franconian tavern culture while remaining open to reinterpretations. On the regular menu, you will find dishes such as Schäufele, Sauerbraten, or Zwiebelrostbraten, alongside tavern classics like the original Wiener Schnitzel or fine fish dishes. Selected examples that represent the style of the cuisine include a Zwiebelrostbraten from German young bull with dark beer sauce and caramelized onions, a pike-perch fillet with walnut crust on smoked potato-celery puree, or a veal ragout with red wine-soaked plums and baked bread dumplings. In addition to the main menu, there is a weekly changing lunch menu with compact, seasonal dishes available on weekdays, as well as a seasonal menu that is supplemented with regional products depending on the time of year. The principle behind it: classics meet creativity, but always with a grounded connection to the region. Many guests combine warm dishes with carefully selected wines from Franconia or a freshly tapped beer. According to regional sources, beers from the Distelhäuser Brewery are served; this consciously emphasizes the proximity to local suppliers. Whether hearty classics, lighter fish dishes, or vegetarian options – the kitchen focuses on the slow, flavor-preserving cooking process that rounds off aromas and refines textures. For those who want to get an overview in advance, the menu, lunch menu, and seasonal menu are neatly separated on the website. Since seasonal focuses and availability change, it is advisable to check the selection shortly before your visit or to ask for daily recommendations when making a reservation. This aligns with the establishment's self-understanding: "Cultivation instead of reform" – tried and tested recipes from grandma's cookbook, carefully cooked, yet served with fresh ideas.

Opening Hours, Reservations, and Tables for Groups

Wirtshaus am Dom is open daily. Officially, the opening hours start from Monday to Saturday at 12:00 PM and on Sundays at 11:00 AM. For planning an evening meal, the suggested times provided on reservation platforms are helpful: during the week, it is usually open until about 11:30 PM, on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight, and on Sundays until about 11:00 PM. These times are meant as a guideline; on busy days, during special events, or in the outdoor season, there may be slight deviations. It is certain: those who want to be sure should reserve their table. There are three convenient ways to do this – online via the tried-and-true reservation tool, by phone at +49 931 99136363, or by email. For groups of ten or more, a separate contact address event@wirtshaus-dom.de is provided; menus, time slots, and seating arrangements can be coordinated individually there. Important for seating choice: during the booking process, a distinction is made between indoor and outdoor areas, and an automatic switch in case of weather changes is not guaranteed. Those who prefer the terrace should also plan for high demand, especially on warm weekends. For spontaneous visits, a quick call is worthwhile – the team will provide available time slots, inform about possible waiting times, and check if there is free space between reservations. It is also practical to look at the lunch menu: on weekdays between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, there is a more compact selection, which is conducive to a quick business lunch. Vouchers can be ordered online or picked up directly on-site – a useful gift for locals and visitors alike.

For those arriving by public transport, tram lines 1, 3, or 5 can be taken to the stop "Dom"; from there, it is just a few minutes on foot. For those arriving by car, parking in the central garages around the old town is recommended. Particularly convenient is the Marktgarage on Karmelitenstraße – a large, centrally located parking garage with all-day opening hours, from which you can quickly reach Paradeplatz. There is also a small short-term parking area directly at Paradeplatz, suitable for very brief errands or for dropping off and picking up; parking duration is limited there. Since events regularly take place in the old town and demand fluctuates, it is advisable to allow a few extra minutes for parking search during peak times. Those coming from the surrounding area can alternatively park at the main train station and take the tram to "Dom" – the connection is well-timed. Orientation is provided by the map embedded on the establishment's website, which shows the exact location at Paradeplatz. Visitors with mobility issues will benefit from the level location at the square and the short distance from the tram stop; wheelchair access is explicitly mentioned in reservation portals. Are Dogs Allowed? Rules for Visiting with a Four-Legged Friend

The topic of "Are dogs allowed?" is one of the most frequently asked questions – understandably, as Paradeplatz invites you to stop by after a city stroll. In common restaurant directories, Wirtshaus am Dom is listed as dog-friendly; thus, dogs are generally allowed both outside on the terrace and inside. Especially on busy days, it is advisable to briefly mention the dog when making a reservation. This way, the team can choose a table that offers enough space – for example, at the edge or near the entrance, so the dog can lie comfortably. Those sitting outside in summer should remember that terrace tables are in high demand; a short note in the booking helps here as well. Water bowls are common in many Franconian taverns, and a friendly request is sufficient if needed. Out of consideration for all guests, the usual etiquette points apply: the dog must remain leashed, lie under or next to the table, and not be placed on chairs or benches. During very busy operations or when events take place in the vicinity of Paradeplatz, it can get loud; sensitive animals often feel more comfortable at tables with some distance. Those who come spontaneously should clarify the dog's presence briefly at the entrance. The general tone of online hints is positive – with prior notice, visits with a four-legged friend usually go smoothly.

Great atmosphere and super nice service. We first just had beer until our wives arrived. After that, we ordered food and were very satisfied. Top-notch service and a fun dessert 👍

Super meat, super beer, super atmosphere. I was a bit drunk that evening while eating and went to the bathroom and squatted down. Then a German woman came in to calm me down. She took care of me several times, gave me a glass of water and 2 peppermint tablets. I recovered quickly. I keep encountering such wonderful German women – they remind me of my mother and grandmother. This is one of the most unforgettable experiences for me this year.

A good restaurant that we visited while passing by... Very appealing atmosphere, friendly staff, and good cuisine... The only thing that disappointed us was the schnitzel, which was not well made (not sufflated, soaked in oil, and the fries were too soggy), the kitchen needs to step up... The rest was flawless and we would come back...

We spontaneously went to the Wirtshaus am Dom for dinner today. A friendly greeting and table assignment followed. A very nice server (waiter, extravagant-elegant) took care of us at the table. Questions regarding allergenic ingredients were promptly clarified and small requests were accommodated. Nice atmosphere, delicious food, good value for money, friendly service. Main course, dessert, schnapps, beer, and mineral water - we were very satisfied! ☺️
