Promotion round to the 3rd division
Naumann keeps Lok in the game – Omore shocks Leipzig
1. FC Lok Leipzig lost the first leg in the promotion round to the 3rd division against Würzburger Kickers at the Bruno-Plache-Stadion 0:1. In front of around 10,000 spectators, Liam Omore decided the match shortly after the break with a header. Until then, Lok goalkeeper Andreas Naumann had kept his team in the game with several strong saves – but after the change of sides, the match clearly shifted in favor of the guests, who developed more control and dictated the tempo.
Naumann prevents an early deficit
Both teams started nervously and were initially clearly focused on not making a mistake that would lead to an early deficit. The first clear scenes still belonged to the Kickers: In the 24th minute, Jermain Nischalke shot from about 15 meters, Naumann deflected the ball around the right post with a strong save. Immediately afterwards, Leipzig's goalkeeper was once again in the spotlight: After the following corner, Tarsis Bonga headed powerfully, Naumann cleared – the ball also touched the crossbar.
Lok needed a moment, but then found their way into the match and created their own chances. Eren Öztürk forced Würzburg's keeper Johann Hipper to make a save with a shot from the right side. In the 33rd minute, Ayodele Adetula had Leipzig's best chance before the break after a pass from Siebeck, but he too failed to beat Hipper. At halftime it was 0:0 – in an increasingly intense match that lived from individual chances, without either team consistently converting their phase into something countable.
After the break, Würzburg uses its strongest phase
The decisive phase began immediately after the restart. Würzburg came out of the dressing room much more alert, won more second balls and put Lok under pressure earlier. In the 50th minute, the goal of the evening fell: Bonga was able to cross unchallenged from the left side, Omore broke free in the penalty area and headed into the right corner from eight meters – 0:1.
With the goal, the dynamics of the match shifted noticeably. The Kickers appeared more aggressive in duels, acted more clearly in their processes and increasingly took control of the match. The 0:1 was therefore not just a single moment, but the result of a phase in which Würzburg acted more purposefully and hardly allowed Lok any relief.
Lok finds no answer to the 0:1
From Leipzig's point of view, it was particularly noticeable how little came together after falling behind. Lok rarely managed to bring the ball into dangerous areas in a controlled manner, while Würzburg managed the game with better organization and higher intensity – without limiting themselves to just defending.
In the 73rd minute, the guests had a great chance for a second goal: Cherif Cisse ran free towards the Lok goal, but shot over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Nischalke was unlucky again when his shot grazed the crossbar. Thus, the match remained close until the end because the second goal did not come – but not because Lok was able to apply decisive pressure again.
All in all, it was a first leg in which Naumann initially kept Lok in the race, but Würzburg took control after the break and used their one consistent moment. For Leipzig, the deficit before the second leg is manageable, but the performance curve after the change of sides is the central issue: Precisely in the phase when a first leg is often decided, Lok lacked the presence to give a clear answer to the 0:1.
